Quick Technical Tour of the Course (6 min.)

Before we start digging into the content, I thought it might be useful to give you a little tour of the course player and explain its most important features.

The video below features our Advanced Script Development Course but the course player works in the same way for all our courses. We regularly make changes and improvements to the course platform, so please make sure that you read the text following the video for the best possible experience.

Videos

Each video in this course offers English subtitles, which are enabled by default but can be disabled by clicking on the “CC” (Close Captions) icon in the playback bar.

You can also control the playback speed by clicking on the “1X” icon in the playback bar and selecting a different speed (up to 15% slower / 50% faster). These settings are active through the whole website, so your choices should be remembered until you change them again.

Unlike the premium online courses, there are no headshot videos in most of this free mini-course, except for the bonus videos taken from our Advanced Development Course.

Interactive Chat Assistant

In the lower right corner of all of the course modules and topics, you’ll find an interactive chat assistant to help you with any questions you might have about the course content. Available 24/7, this assistant provides information, definitions, examples and guidance about the content of the course.

As you’re not enrolled in the course yet, you only have access to a limited version of the assistant. As soon as you register, log in and enroll in the course, you’ll get access to an advanced assistant specifically trained to the content of the course, and the icon in the lower right corner will reflect the active online course.

Registration will also unlock all the training modules in the course, as you currently only have access to the first section, “Getting Started”.

Topics Materials

All the slides and a transcript of each video are displayed in the ‘materials’ tab for each topic, but it’s not possible to download or print these documents.

However, a free 80-page e-book covering the same content as the mini-course and including a Story-Type Method Glossary can be downloaded once you complete the course, from the “Next Steps” topic, as well as a PDF including all the slides shown during the presentation.

Interactive Quizzes and Gamification

Unlike our premium online courses, there are no quizzes or gamification included in this free mini-course.

However, please note that you’ll still earn reward points as you go through the course, for each completed topic and module. You’ll also get a bonus of around 9,000 points when you complete the course, for a total of up to 10,000 reward points ($50).

These points can be redeemed against a future purchase (up to 10% OFF any course), so the further you go in the course, the bigger the potential saving on your next course!

Note-taking

Taking notes as you go through the course is highly recommended, as it might help you feel more engaged. It can also help to process and memorise the information if you write it in your own words.

When logged-in, you’ll find a handy widget that speeds up the process of taking e-notes to the right of all course pages. These private notes synchronise automatically between your devices and can be printed or exported as MS Word documents. These notes are only accessible by you, from within the course.

Some like to pause the video frequently and take advantage of the subtitles as they write their notes, either on the content or on their own project. Others like to watch the same video more than once to take all the content in. It’s entirely up to you.

Accessibility

Last but not least, in the bottom left corner you’ll find an accessibility tool that offers a text-to-speech feature along with various modes: epilepsy safe, visually impaired, cognitive disability, ADHD friendly and blindness.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any suggestions to help make this website even more accessible, as this is important to us.
