Give Your High-End TV Series a Total Makeover

Apply all the tools explored in the Advanced TV Series Workshop or Course to your own project, with feedback from a group of experienced peers led by Emmanuel Oberg

With the support of Screen Ireland through the Screen Stakeholders Funding Scheme, we’re inviting experienced Irish storytellers (writers, creators, showrunners, directors, producers, story editors…) developing or intending to develop High-End TV series projects to apply to the 2025-2026 edition of Emmanuel Oberg’s Series Rewrite Programme, which will open in November 2025 with Stage 1, Writing a Successful TV Series, an advanced TV Series online workshop (17-21 November 2025).

This first stage forms part of the selection process and preparation for the rest of the programme. It isn’t project-led, so it’s also aimed at experienced filmmakers wanting to move to the TV sector who might not have a HETV series in active development yet, and at experienced TV professionals who would like to get back into the business after a hiatus, update their skills and / or give a boost to their career.

In December 2025, a selection of Stage 1 participants who have also applied to the rest of the programme with a HETV series project will be joined by a selection of previous participants of Emmanuel’s TV Series workshop or online course to attend Stage 2, The Rewrite Stuff: 12 Ways to a Stronger Series. This project-led, Hands-On Series Rewrite Workshop will start off in-person with an intensive week in Dublin (12-17 January 2026) and will continue online until May 2026.

This programme is supported by Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland through the Screen Stakeholders Funding Scheme

Programme Profile

Overview

After a very successful 2025 edition of our Feature-length Film & HETV Rewrite Workshop for Screen Ireland, we have decided to expand the programme and to shift the focus to HETV series this year.

The 2025-2026 HETV Series Rewrite Programme for Screen Ireland will take place in two stages between November 2025 and May 2026:

Stage 1 (November 2025)

Writing a Successful TV Series is an advanced online workshop, part self-led, part live. This first stage is open to Irish storytellers already developing TV Series as well as those intending to move or diversify from feature film development to the HETV sector: writers, creators, showrunners, directors, producers, story editors, development execs… Anyone experienced in script development eager to learn more about how to design, develop and pitch a successful TV Series. This workshop is open both to individuals and members of creative teams.

Here is a five-page overview and schedule for Stage 1 that you can view in full screen, print or download by clicking on the icons in the top right corner of the document window below:

A project isn’t needed for this stage, so it’s possible to apply to Stage 1 only, or to apply to Stage 1 first and then decide whether to apply to Stage 2 with a project.

Completing this first stage is mandatory for Stage 2 applicants who haven’t already completed Emmanuel’s TV Series workshop or online course, as this workshop forms part of the selection process and preparation for the rest of the programme.

Applicants who have already completed Emmanuel’s TV Series workshop or online course can skip Stage 1 and apply to Stage 2 directly with their series project.

Stage 2 (December 2025 – May 2026)

The Rewrite Stuff – 12 Ways to a Stronger Series is a hands-on, project-led rewrite workshop described in more detail below. This workshop is open to experienced professionals developing a HETV series project, applying as “solo” writers or as creative teams (writers / creators / director / showrunner / producer / story editor / development exec or co-writers working on the same project). Only those with a TV series project can apply to Stage 2 and the main writer(s) must take part.

Here is a seven-page overview and schedule for Stage 2 that you can view in full screen, print or download by clicking on the icons in the top right corner of the document window below:

Video Interview & Success Story

Denise Deegan is an Irish novelist & PAGE Award-winning screenwriter who did two TV Series workshops with us and whose career has since seen a meteoric rise! She took part in a previous TV Series edition of ‘The Rewrite Stuff’ and she discusses her experience with Emmanuel in the interview below (you’ll find an index with direct links to specific sections after the video):

Key Points

  • Stage 1 (TV Series Online Workshop) is open to experienced professionals from the film and HETV sector applying as individuals or as members of a creative team, whether they have a HETV series project in development or not. Members of a creative team who wish to do Stage 2 with their project have to apply individually to this first stage if they haven’t already completed Emmanuel’s TV Series workshop or online course, as Stage 1 forms part of the selection process and preparation for Stage 2.
  • Stage 2 (Hands-On Rewrite Workshop) is open to experienced professionals developing a HETV series project, applying either as “solo” writers or as a creative team (writers / creators / showrunner / director / producer / story editor / development exec or co-writers working on the same project). Only one member needs to apply on behalf of the team (min. 2, max. 4 participants). Creative teams can only apply with the main writer(s) of the project and can’t apply without a project. Priority will likely be given to creative teams, especially over less experienced solo writers.
  • While the one-week in-person workshop that starts Stage 2 will take place in Dublin, the programme is open to Irish storytellers nationally (including Northern Ireland). A team could include a member from another country as long as the main writer or producer is Irish.
  • Participants of previous Advanced Development workshops with Emmanuel — or those who have completed the Advanced Script Development online coursewill be given priority as they are already familiar with his approach, which reduces preparation time for this programme. There is no need to do the TV Series online course ahead of the selection as it’s part of the Stage 1 workshop and access is included for Stage 2 participants as well.

However, Stage 2 participants are asked to cover their travel, meals and accommodation costs (minimum 4 days / 3 nights) in relation to the in-person event, which will take place over 4-6 days in Dublin in January 2026. Participants Profile

The Rewrite Stuff is aimed at experienced Irish creative professionals working in script development in the feature film or High-End TV sector:

  • Stage 1 (Advanced TV Series Online Workshop, November 2025) is open to any creative professional involved in the script development process (writer, creator, showrunner, director, producer, story editor, development exec), whether they have a HETV project in active development or not and whether they are part of a creative team or not. Members of a creative team need to apply individually to this stage.
  • This first stage is mandatory for any Stage 2 applicant who hasn’t already completed Emmanuel’s TV Series workshop or online course. Applicants who have already done so can skip Stage 1 and apply for Stage 2 directly.
  • Stage 2 (Hands-On TV Series Rewrite Workshop, December 2025 – May 2026) is open to experienced professionals developing a HETV series project, applying either as “solo” writers who haven’t attached a producer yet (or whose producer is unable to attend), or as creative teams (writers / creators / showrunner / director / producer / story editor / development exec or co-writers working on the same project). A creative team can only apply with a project and the associated writer(s). Min. 2, max. 4 participants but only one application per team.
  • Any Stage 2 applicant (solo writer or team member) who hasn’t already completed Emmanuel’s TV Series workshop or online course needs to apply to Stage 1 as well and to complete the training before they can be offered a place for Stage 2.
  • Co-writers developing the same project can apply together as a creative team, even if they haven’t attached a producer yet or if their producer is unable to attend.
  • Writers applying to Stage 2 as a creative team can work together as co-writers, or one of them can work as a story editor with the other, as long as they apply with and work on the same project during Stage 2.

The ideal participant is experienced, has preferably completed our Advanced Script Development Workshop or online course, and is looking to develop a HETV series project with a strong international potential, for a worldwide audience.

Although experienced solo writers — particularly those who are also directors or producers — are warmly invited to apply to Stage 2, priority will likely be given to creative teams, especially over less experienced solo writers, so storytellers are strongly encouraged to apply to Stage 2 as a team in order to increase their chances of getting selected.

The Advanced Script Development online course isn’t included in the 2025-2026 programme, but an up to 70% discount is available on the website, until we reach capacity.

Left to Use an Advanced Script Development Course Discount Code

Our acclaimed TV Series Online Course will be made available for 90 days to all Stage 1 participants, and access will be extended for 180 days for all Stage 2 participants. That way, those who haven’t already done that training can get up to speed before Stage 2, while those who did it a while ago can revisit the content to prepare, should they want to.

Stage 1 participants are expected to be available for the duration of the workshop (two weeks of preparation in the first half of November and five days for the workshop itself on November 17-21, 2025).

Stage 2 participants are expected to be available for the duration of the main workshop (4 full days on January 12-15, 2026 + 1.5 hours on Day 5/6 in Dublin or online on January 19, 2026) and to participate in all events. They should be happy to read up to five projects from other participants (each project being 30 pages max.) between the 12th of December 2025 and the 11th of January 2026 and be happy for other participants to read their project before the main event in Dublin. Confidentiality & Non-disclosure agreements will be issued.

Selected participants who aren’t familiar with Emmanuel’s approach commit to completing the TV Series Online Course before the one-week live event, ideally during Stage 1 as part of the online workshop.

Eligible projects

While Stage 1 participants are invited to work on their project as they go through the content of the online workshop, it isn’t necessary to have a project in active development to apply to Stage 1 as there will be no project work with the group or tutor during that initial stage.

Stage 2 applicants should have a HETV series project (live action or animation) with an existing pitch deck or bible. This working document should be at least 8 pages and at most 30 pages long. The project can be intended for streaming or broadcast TV distribution.

Once selected, Stage 2 participants can also submit a draft of their pilot / first episode screenplay (max. 90 pages) for feedback during individual meetings. If desired, the pilot / first episode draft can be made available for other participants to read, should they want to.

Having a pilot / first episode ready isn’t mandatory when applying as it can be developed during the rewrite window, but it will be a plus for the application.

Submitting an outline of each episode for the first season and arcs for future seasons is also welcome but not mandatory, as these can be added during or after the workshop.

As this is a rewrite programme, more advanced projects are likely to be prioritised over those in the early stages of development, unless the latter are submitted by highly experienced participants with a strong track record.

Any series type (procedural, serial, anthological, sitcom, etc.) or genre is eligible for Stage 2. Only TV series projects (including limited series / mini-series) are eligible for this 2026 edition. No feature-length single TV or film projects (we’re hoping to focus on these again in 2027). No non-fiction / documentaries either.

Turning even the trickiest concepts into something practical and usable

What sets Emmanuel Oberg’s Writing a Successful TV Series apart is his passion, knowledge and generosity. He shares what he knows with humour, turning even the trickiest concepts into something practical and usable. I loved that he put the audience at the centre, giving us tools to genuinely enrich the viewing experience. He knows exactly how to weave in information that triggers emotional responses – seamlessly and intelligently.
I came away feeling better equipped to approach my own stories, and other people’s, with greater clarity and insight. Inspiring, funny, and impressively thorough.

Mind-opening!

I found the TV Series Live Workshop stimulating and informative from beginning to end. It challenged me to think about TV series drama in a completely fresh way and gave me a brilliant new set of tools that are already proving invaluable to my evolution as a writer.

Emmanuel is exceptionally knowledgeable, with an acute instinct for how TV drama series work and why. Using an eclectic selection of examples and case studies, his story-type method offers an approach to dramatic structure and series design which is both empowering and liberating. I would recommend this mind-opening workshop to every writer, producer and development executive working or hoping to work in TV series.

The fire is lit

Emmanuel is passionate and extremely knowledgeable. What particularly stood out to me was his willingness to connect to everyone on the course, no matter what level of experience they had, or what type of question they asked. I found his story type method toward developing a successful TV series incredibly illuminating and useful. Thanks to this course my creative spark is well and truly lit! I highly recommend entrusting Emmanuel and leveraging his incredible experience and approach.

Perfect mix of theory and practice

I cannot believe how much I learned in such a short time here! Emmanuel clarified for me what makes shows I love work and equally what makes some niche but great. He wears his vast knowledge of current TV landscape very lightly. Easy to follow relevant and contemporary examples across all TV genres support his delivery which is engaging. He is also super responsive to questions and participants needs at all times. Time to network and discuss with other participants was an unexpected bonus, I cannot recommend this course highly enough. I’ve already amended one project for the better as a result and I’m really looking forward to delving into the additional materials. Fantastic value for money!

A Character led course

Emmanuel’s Series Rewrite course was exactly what I hoped it would be – enjoyable, challenging, rewarding, inspiring and a toolbox to take into the future. I am delighted I committed to the course and now have a method and a common language to rely on for developing my own work, and collaborating with others.

Superbly Prepared Industry-Friendly Workshop

Writing a Successful TV Series Online Course is a game-changer. It has everything a budding television series writer wants: lots of relevant recent examples and breakdowns of character and story strands. Every session is a masterpiece in practicing the tools of tv writing. I recommend to both new and seasoned professionals in the film and tv industry. Emmanuel Oberg’s teaching style is fun and full of surprising insight. A true gem in teaching and learning screenwriting online.

Fantastic Toolkit for storytellers

Drawing on his enthusiasm, knowledge and experience,
Emmanuel and the Story Type Method helps to take the fear out of first drafts and rewrites without being prescriptive.
The course itself was engaging, challenging and fun, helping to give us the tools to not only fix story issues, but also identify them in the first place.
No matter your experience level, every storyteller could benefit from this course (and have some fun along the way).

Simon G. Briggs

I didn’t just take Emmanuel’s workshop — I detonated into a better writer because of it.

The course itself was already incredible, but the workshop… wooooow!!!
It sharpened my thinking like a laser. Every question, every exercise, every discussion with other creatives felt like plugging my brain into a higher voltage.
Suddenly the story was clearer, the characters deeper, the structure tighter — and I was seeing my own work with a level of precision I didn’t know I had in me.
The group dynamic was electric: smart people challenging each other, elevating each idea, and forcing me to think in a more professional, bolder way.
It wasn’t just helpful.
It was transformative.
I walked out buzzing, inspired, and absolutely certain that this is the method I want to build all my future projects on.

If you want to make a television show then you don’t want to miss this class!

If you want to make a television show then you don’t want to miss this class! Emmanuel’s extensive research and streamlined process will save you time and countless rewrites as he takes the guess-work out of what an audience (and therefore the executives) want and expect from a new series.

Monica McCarthy

A very insightful and enjoyable course.

The course was super-informative and well-designed with easy access to all materials. Emmanuel shared with us amazing case studies and answered all our questions incisively. And, he generously provided us with lots of free materials as well. For me it was fascinating to learn about story type and structure following Maslow’s Pyramid. It really helped me. Emmanuel is a very engaging, knowledgeable and patient tutor. I was looking forward eagerly to every online session and loved this course very much! I now have all the tools I need to polish my script. Thank you! Highly recommended.

Tatiana Tierney

Meticulously designed to make every bit of information comprehensible and enjoyable!

I am blown away by the attention to detail and care that was shown by Emmanuel in constructing this course. I have never been on a writing course that is so meticulously designed to make every bit of information comprehensible and enjoyable. It took one week with Emmanuel for me to understand story design, character and structure at an in-depth level I didn’t think was possible to attain in such a short time. I can’t wait to get stuck into my TV pilot knowing I have all the tools and material I need to make a compelling show.

Tania Notaro

A superb and refreshing online course!

‘Writing a Successful TV Series’ is a superb online course. The story-type method is a refreshing approach, driven by dramatic conflict rooted in causality and understandable character action, reaction and evolution. It is a welcome alternative to the plethora of other structural analyses out there that often appear to strive for adherence to time-based units of progression without prioritising the internal dramatic engine. I absolutely agree with the idea of the fractal aspect of storytelling at season, series, episode, sequence and scene level – nature is built on fractals so it makes complete sense that drama that resonates with us is too. I would thoroughly recommend the course for any aspiring and indeed many experienced writers.

Dominic Wright

Helping me to understand and appreciate the stories I want to tell.

Emmanuel’s passion for storytelling throughout the course was infectious from the get go. Having such an engaging tutor was a huge help to me in bringing my own stories to life.
Sign up for his course today; you won’t regret it.

Great!

I did this course online and loved it from start to finish. I think it gives writers a very clear understanding of some really useful tools which can be used to design a story/storylines or to diagnose why a story might not be working and how to fix it. I loved having the ability to pause and rewind and take notes at my own pace. I also found the quizzes at the end of each module and the feedback on right/wrong answers super useful. I think I will come back again and again to all I’ve learned here.

A deep dive into story structure

“Emmanuel’s course is like a deep dive into story structure. You think you’ve got it mastered and then you realise how much more there is to learn. I feel so much more equipped as a screenwriter and script reader after this course.”

Niamh O'Connor

Creating a common toolbox for writers working together

TV Series is a wonderful aid for writers and producers working together. Since completing the ADW in 2018, and the TV Series course in 2020, I’ve come back again and again to Emmanuel’s methods when troubleshooting my own work or steering others in development. Recently, along a group of writers I’m working with, I completed the latest online TV Series course. It has created a common language with which to discuss story issues and character development that has been invaluable in shortcutting how we communicate. The course is thorough and well presented, with clips and case studies that make it easier to put these gems of writing wisdom into practice. Emmanuel’s methods put the audience at the heart, helping the writer to amplify their message and maximise the chances of getting their story out into the world.

An insightful, clarifying and fun workshop!

Emmanuel Oberg’s workshop offers an insightful and comprehensive way to approach tv series narrative and structure. His method is simple but very clarifying, a useful tool when dealing with episodes, pilots, bibles, strands, seasons, cliffhangers, franchise and all sorts of often confusing concepts even for the experienced film producer. It is also fun and I really enjoyed taking it. I can say that I feel much better equipped now to face the development of my series project.

Cristina Zumarraga

An enlightening experience

I did the Advanced Development Workshop and I really enjoyed the experience. It brought to the forefront the importance of a solid structure in order to enhance the impact of storylines without necessarily compromising creative expression. Emmanuel uses practical examples to breakdown the theory into practice which I found very useful. I would definitely recommend this course if you want to dig deep into the heart and soul of your story and give it legs.

Highly Instructive Webinar

I found Emmanuel’s course immensely beneficial. He combines an encyclopaedic grasp of his subject with a natural flair for communication and shares his knowledge with great generosity and passion. I was able to apply the information and insights immediately to my scripts. I could not recommend his courses more highly. [TV Series Online Workshop for Creative Europe Galway, May 2020]

If you want to dig deep and even deeper: this is the way to go. It is explained well, every step of the way, so you can apply what is thought.

Impressive knowledge!

I had the pleasure to attend two of Emmanuel’s workshops. His knowledge about the different screenwriting approaches is impressive and enables him to recombine and rethink them to a new approach. I highly appreciate his work no matter if you already know a lot about screenplays or not.

An in depth and honest look at your series

This workshop was a brilliant experience – a time to really take stock of what you’ve got. Emmanuel provided the structure to look at our series with fresh and objective eyes, to consciously examine the choices we were making while never undermining the often unconscious creative process. Doing the workshop has made us much clearer about what is working and what’s not and will help not just with our current project but with all future ones.

Anna Merritt

Game Changer

‘The Rewrite Stuff’ tackles the same old script problems with a completely new toolbox. It’s a real game changer. The breakout rooms are fantastic, but the programme truly shines in Emmanuel’s one-to-one sessions, where he asks exactly the right questions to unlock better storytelling.

Marty Thornton

Visionary, versatile approach – all in service of creating great TV.

During this intensive, ground-breaking week, it was our daily privilege to be led by Emmanuel (and each other), to better series development via his ground-breaking but, crucially, non-prescriptive approach. Emmanuel helped us re-examine our series from multiple angles to enhance the creative punch, audience reach, potential longevity and scope of our projects. The course workbook provoked productive discussions with my script editor and pointed us to solutions that have transformed the series. That workbook also helped to signpost discussions and feedback with the very talented and insightful group of fellow writers. The reading and viewing in advance of the workshop in tandem with the online course elevated my understanding of the mechanics of successful series via concrete examples. Finally it is a mark of a truly visionary and versatile process that so many series wildly diverse in tone and range were demonstrably improved during the week. An unexpected bonus was seeing our abilities to pitch soar. Moving forward with a detailed time-bound action plan for the work now is challenging and also exciting – as we get to see how far we can bring the projects along with these new tools.
Highly recommended to anyone who wants to ‘break’ their series open and learn a new approach to creating work that resonates.

A clear pathway lies ahead!

So often writers encounter obstacles and forks in the road when designing and writing a TV series. Bafflement begone! Emmanuel Oberg’s Series Rewrite Workshop is an inspiring practical twelve steps to find the answers we all seek- from early stage stories to ones that are more developed.

His unique methodology crystallises your ideas and pinpoints where the gaps lie in your story to make it the best it can be. The course also provided shared learning from our fellow writers and their TV projects across multiple genre . We had plenty of laughs along the way too.

Looking forward to further feedback from Emmanuel over the the coming months. This is a great opportunity for writers.

Deep Dive

This course was really great. Emmanuel goes through everything in such detail. It’s a fresh new way of looking at your series and provides loads of tools to take it to the next level. The immersive week, engaging with other writers and projects, with Emmanuel always there for advice and guidance, was both inspiring and exhilarating. It culminated in a one on one with Emmanuel on the last day which encapsulated all the work we had done in the week as he gave great feedback on how best to move forward with the series. Highly recommended.

I cannot thank Emmanuel enough for his altruistic approach and depth of understanding in creating a successful TV series for today’s audience. Pitch perfect

When I first arrived at Emmanuel Oberg’s tv series rewrite workshop – I was nervous. One of the first things we were asked to do was to go around the room and deliver our elevator pitch. Cut to 4 days later, and I was actually excited to deliver my revised pitch! Emmanuel managed to curate a brilliant group of writers who all shared a passion for their own project and a willingness to enter deep and thoughtful discussions on each others work. It was a really productive, creative and fun few days and I believe I have made some new friends along the way. It was also an opportunity to tackle any plot holes, character weaknesses and any areas that could become problematic in the future. Every time our group sat down to critique our projects, it was from a new perspective guided by Emmanuel. I found the few days, followed by a one-on-one with Emmanuel, truly invaluable. I am fizzing with ideas and can’t wait to work further. Could not recommend this more.

It has given me the key to unlock a whole new season of my show

I just completed Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland’s Series Rewrite Stage Two Course by Emmanuel Oberg along with a fabulous group of writers and producers. There was a quantum leap in the quality of our pitches from the start of the week to the end, and it has given me the key to unlock a whole new season of my show. Thanks so much to all involved. I heartily recommend it.

A must-do for all television writers, both emerging and experienced

The series rewrite programme is a must-do for all television writers, both emerging and experienced. Of all the schemes and courses I’ve done, Emmanuel’s story-type method was the most beneficial. Thanks to Screen Ireland and Screenplay Unlimited for allowing me to participate.

Highly Recommend

Emmanuel Oberg’s The Rewrite Stuff helped my co-writer and I to crack open our project, Killfluencers, and detect where it needed work. Examining it under twelve topics led to great clarity. The programme offered an incredibly opportunity to spend a significant block of time together, really diving into our TV series, taking onboard feedback from other teams and Emmanuel himself – who would make a great showrunner. We have come away with a great clarity and focus and look forward to a review of our results by Emmanuel in twelve week’s time. Thanks Emmanuel!

Enjoyable and Inspiring. Definitely worthwhile

No matter how experienced or how much you (think you) know, this immersive, intensive, and interactive 12-step course is a brilliant way to dig deep into your original TV drama series. The daily structure is well-organised and focused on individuals within the wider group improving development, editing & re-writing skills alongside re-evaluating the strengths/weaknesses of their overall project. The extra plus is teaming up with like-minded writers and the core takeaways are lifelong lessons for the future. If you are an ambitious screenwriter with a well-developed concept apply, enjoy & learn from Emmanuel, the other individuals in your group & most of all from the constant re-appraisal and challenges you need to set yourself each day and afterward going forward. Hard work but enjoyable and inspiring. Definitely worthwhile.

Emmanuel’s insight has totally re-energized my passion and enthusiasm for my project

I recently completed Emmanuel’s “Rewrite Stuff” workshop and I cannot praise it highly enough. Emmanuel’s insight has given me so much to think about and has totally re-energized my passion and enthusiasm for my project and now I can’t wait to get re-writing and pitching. In addition to his own insights Emmanuel also fostered a really warm and open environment in which all the writers and producers in the room felt completely at ease discussing each others projects openly and honestly. The workshop worked wonders for my own confidence in what my project can become. I would absolutely recommend any writer jump at the chance to take part in this workshop!

I took Emmanuel’s Rewrite Workshop as I had hit a wall with the TV series I was writing. I can honestly say this is one of the best writing courses I have taken. It clarified so much for me around story type, story structure and series design. It gave me real, actionable next steps to reassess my series and take it to the next level. I am excited to get back to developing my series and confident my next pass will be much improved having had my mind slightly altered (in a good way!) by Emmanuel.

A must for any writer looking to take their TV series to the next level

I cannot stress how good this course was. It gave us focus even before the start date of the actual course as we had to write a bible, pitch and read other projects. The course itself was very well organised with an emphasis on group work, collaboration, feedback. It was well structured and each step that was covered gave us great focus in terms of looking at our projects anew. The group dynamic was very open and constructive. Emmanuel managed it all seamlessly and made it a very safe, creative space. I left the course with a clearer vision of what I wanted to achieve and the tools to make it happen.
The follow up meeting has given us a definite timeline to get our project pilot written and the fact that Emmanuel will meet us again in July to see how we are progressing is another great incentive to keep going.

An incredible few days breaking the back of a TV series

I embarked on Emmanuel’s course in an effort to re-write a TV series that was early in development and I am so glad that I did. The core of my story, the why if you will for the main character, was not working and after a few days of working through the 12-step Rewrite model, I cracked it. Everyone in the writersroom setting had a chance to do an elevator pitch on day 1, and then again on day 4, with half the room having read the longer pitch/treatment. I found this a really interesting, revealing process and the pitch practice was fantastic.
Being in the room in-person, with other brilliant writers, after covid, was amazing. I learned a huge amount from the other writers and their projects and from the smaller break-out teams that we were paired into.
I would wholeheartedly recommend both Emmanuel’s online courses and the Rewrite week. It has transformed my TV series, and it is a Rewrite model that I will use going forward, again and again, for other TV series and features.
Thank you Emmanuel, and Eibhlín, at Creative Europe Desk Galway. It was a real gift to be chosen for this development course.

If you are going to do one TV writing course, do this one.

I had the pleasure of doing both Emmanuel’s online course and then experience the rewrite course in person. His online course is by far the most succinct, clear and easy to follow guide to help you in planning/developing or writing a TV series that I have ever completed. It’s also broken down in neat sections so you are not overwhelmed, and you have the slides as a take away so that you can refer to them in the future. In person he has a clear understanding and passion for TV series and he delivers his patented 12 steps in an entertaining, patient and concise fashion. I would highly recommend for people working in development and TV writers to take his course, a lot of the information is stuff you probably know on a subconscious level, but his course clarifies all of that into simple useful tools. I would say if you are stuck writing a TV series and something is not working, his 12 steps will be hugely beneficial, and you will take away methods you can use forever. If you are going to do one TV writing course, do his, it covers everything and will leave you with everything you need to move forward, or to go plan a new TV series. Happy writing.

It helped me see my project in a clearer light than I ever had before

The TV Rewrite Workshop gave me the kick I needed to work through and think about my project in new ways while also getting me completely in touch with what the core of it was this whole time. The discussions led by Emmanuel along with his depth of knowledge on TV and Film helped me see elements of my project in a clearer light than I ever had before. The most rewarding part of the experience was working with a group of other writers and discussing their projects along with my own in the safe and open environment Emmanuel cultivated.

Hugely beneficial to the further development of my project

I found this workshop to be hugely beneficial to the further development of my project. It was a great opportunity to hone my pitch and all feedback received was very positive and constructive. We interrogated each series, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and I now have a much stronger grasp of my story and the issues I need to address as I proceed to the next draft. Would highly recommend.

Amazing opportunity to focus

The time and guidance from Emmanuel over the four days was really helpful. It allowed us to focus and the feedback from the group was great too. Sometime it’s hard to see the wood from the trees on your own project, when you’re so close to it. So to get the opportunity to dive deep and relook at everything was invaluable.
